    • Community Service Opportunity Sept. 22

Hello, Erica Keefe here, volunteer coordinator assistant for the 2024 GNOCA 5K (Greater Newburyport Ovarian Cancer Awareness).  I have been working with Diane West and Mike Merriman to coordinate the crew for this year's event which is coming up quickly.  We are grateful for your assistance over the years and look forward to having your students join again this year on September 22nd.  Details for the event can be found at https://www.ocawareness.org/gnoca-5k-run-walk.  Volunteers are needed starting at 8:30 AM, and should be free to go before 11:30 AM or earlier if needed.  Please reach out to me directly with any questions. We are happy to provide any additional information needed to recruit students and to post on your electronic boards. Thank you to those who have already posted on your community service boards and classrooms. We'd appreciate it if you could remind students of this event, as its success relies on volunteers.  Your support is much appreciated!
      Best Regards,
      Erica Keefe

    • Sweet Paws Rescue Volunteer Program

If you've worked with Sweet Paws Rescue already, thank you! If you don't already know us, Sweet Paws Rescue is an all-volunteer animal rescue organization located in Groveland, MA. We are so excited to introduce you to our High School Volunteer program!

About every 2 weeks Sweet Paws brings a new group of puppies and kittens up from our Southern rescue teams. Massachusetts law requires a 48 hour "isolation" at our Groveland facility (ISO) before they go home with adopters and fosters. To be ready, we need help preparing clean, safe, and calming spaces for our pups and kitties. Please come earn service hours by helping us with cleaning, stocking, and setting up!

This year we're happily expanding the program that allows 16 and 17 year olds the opportunity to earn a spot in our puppy volunteer program. If you complete 3 "ISO Shifts" you will be invited to attend Dog Team training and will be able to join that team to help care for arriving puppies!

We are also so excited that Barktoberfest is back! On October 19th we will host our biggest annual fundraiser at Spencer-Pierce-Little Farm in Newbury and we need LOTS of volunteers to help make it a successful event.

"ISO Shifts" will generally be every two weeks on Thursdays before transports from 6-8pm and the following Tuesday from 6-8.

Please be sure that you provide a personal email when you sign up and
check it often as we add special volunteer opportunities as projects pop up!

If you're ready to volunteer for upcoming events,  SIGN UP HERE
All volunteers are required to complete a WAIVER (please have a parent complete it if you are under 18)

    • Opportunity for Your Students: Join the Make-A-Wish Youth Leadership Council

Our Youth Leadership Council (YLC) has been empowering high school students to become conscious leaders in their communities for the past few years. Our YLC students experience firsthand the incredible power of giving back while growing and developing skills to aid them in their future endeavors and making lifelong friends from other parts of the state. We are now opening the application process for the upcoming term and are seeking students passionate about making a difference.

About the YLC: The YLC is a unique after-school program that provides a platform for students to lead awareness campaigns, engage with their communities, and support local children in need. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities, a strong sense of responsibility, and a deep passion for making a positive impact on their communities. Here are some key benefits for students:

·Develop leadership skills through hands-on community engagement, including leading awareness campaigns.

·Make a tangible impact by fulfilling the wishes of children facing life-threatening illnesses.

·Build lasting friendships with peers from diverse backgrounds.

·Enhance public speaking abilities and boost self-confidence.

·Accrue volunteer and community service hours with school approval.

·Network with local business professionals for future academic and professional opportunities.

If you believe any of your students would be a good fit for the YLC, we kindly request your assistance in spreading the word about this opportunity. Additional details on benefits, requirements and application can be found HERE.

Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mariame Sano.

Thank you for your dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders. Together, we can inspire young minds to become change-makers and positively impact our communities.

      Warm regards,

      Mariame Sano
