miRcore Summer Camps for High School Students!
Our camp sessions offered include the Computational Biology Camp (CB), Biotechnology Sequencing Camp (BTS), and R Programming & Machine Learning Camp (R Camp). We also offer a special 3-week Sequencing Your Genome Camp, where students can sequence their own genomes. A unique feature of our camps is that following the summer, students can continue their learning experience with the miRcore Volunteer Program, which meets throughout the school year online (remote students) and in person (at the University of Michigan and Scripps Research Institute). Our volunteer program guides students in year-long group research to publish research abstracts and to present at our Annual High School Research Conferences (2024 keynote speaker: Dr. Anthony Antonellis, Chair of the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Michigan). Beyond personal research advances, the miRcore Volunteer Program supports student growth in leadership and healthcare advocacy through student-directed voluntary activities. Volunteers are trained to lead the school club Genes in Diseases and Symptoms (GIDAS), where they teach other students precision medicine and research methods to participate in the Conference. There are also opportunities to get involved in advocacy through miRcore Science Advocacy, where we train students to empathetically share important and sensitive science topics with others, such as genome privacy. The flyer attached to this email includes the dates and times for all the 2024 summer camps we offer. Please let students know about this amazing opportunity! MiRcore would love to have motivated students from Newburyport High School join our camps! For more information about MVP, visit our website https://www.mircore.org/.
