MAY 16 AND 17 – MATH MCAS

To accommodate for the Math MCAS, the school day for juniors and seniors will begin at 11:15.  Freshmen and Sophomores will come to school at the regular time.  While the sophomores take the exam, the freshmen will participate in the Biology Blitz to help them prepare for the Biology MCAS they will take in June.  Our science department has organized a fun way to review biology concepts studied across the school year.

Here is the school day schedule for these 2 days.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) EXAMS

Students are wrapping-up their AP exams this week.  Congratulations to all of our students who have participated in these over the past 2 weeks.  We have 226 different students take at least one test with a total of 405 exams being administered across these last week and this week.

ACADEMIC HONORS NIGHT

Next Tuesday will be our Academic Honors Night.  Outside of graduation, this is one of our larger ceremonies of the year.  This event recognizes the academic accomplishments of our students and during the ceremony, the senior class Valedictorian, Salutatorian, the Bresnahan School Athlete, and our first time ever, Newburyport Scholar Artist address all those in attendance.  This is a great evening in recognition of scholarship.  Please see below for this year’s speakers.

  • Senior Class Valedictorian – Gianna McKeown
  • Senior Class Salutatorian – Olivia Hansen
  • Bresnahan Scholar Athlete – Dierdre McElhinney
  • Newburyport Scholar Artist (Inaugural Year of Recognition) – Sophia Hartford

NORTH SHORE SCHOLARS BANQUET

Tomorrow, NHS will be part of the North Shore Scholars Banquet in Danvers.  This event recognizes senior students in the top 5% of their respective classes from high schools across the North Shore.  Our scholars include:  Will Acquaviva, Olivia Barbera, Fionna Flynn, Olivia Hansen, Avery Hochheiser, Riya Kaur, Gabriella Loughran, Kellan McDermott, Deirdre McElhinney, Gianna McKeown, and Lilly Ragusa

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to our Slam Poetry Team.  This past weekend they won the State’s Youth Slam Competition at the Mass Poetry Festival.  Team members are Riley Dougherty, Aibhne Martino, Nick O'Connor, Tuala Sullivan, Nadia Toth, and Kajsa Woodger.

Congratulations to Avery Stephenson who was recently recognized by the National Association of Women Artists for her outstanding artistic creativity and talent.

SENIOR CLASS POST HIGH SCHOOL PLANS

ATHLETICS

It looks like the spring season will be extending into June once again.  Most of our teams will be eligible for post-season tournament play.  Some noteworthy accomplishments so far include:

  • Girls Tennis ranked #1 in Massachusetts Division 3
  • Girls Lacrosse ranked # 1 in Massachusetts Division 3
  • Girls Track is the Division State Relay Champions

I’d also like to acknowledge Senior Isabella Rosa.  This season in Girls Lacrosse she has hit 2 century marks:  100 Goals and 100 Assists.  Definitely an impressive milestone.

Alongside Isabella’s accomplishment, Senior Tennis Player Caroline Schulson is 56-0 in her tennis career and ranked #1 in MA and #4 in New England.  Way to go Caroline.

COURSE SHOUT-OUT

Intermediate Web Design and Advanced Robotics were recently invited to tour Google in Cambridge.  Here is a picture of the group at Google!  These classes are taught by Casey McNulty and Sarah Leadbeater respectively.  Students in advanced robotics engage in a deep study of the systems and concepts of robotic mechanisms.  Many of these students participate in our award-winning Sailbot team which competes against colleges and other high schools from around the country.  In Intermediate Web Design, students practice advanced web design techniques using Adobe Dreamweaver and have a focus on UX/UI design considerations and interactive elements using JavaScript.
