Hello Clipper Families,
The second semester is underway. Teachers will be finalizing grades over the next few days, and final semester reports will be available in the first week of February.
Though we are still in the middle of winter, activities are plentiful here at NHS.
- The newly formed Chess Club has over 35 students strong. Thank you to Mr. Cole and the NEF for overseeing and sponsoring this activity.
- The Mock Trial team hosted its first trial against Central Catholic last week. Our first-year team lost by only a few points, but learned a great deal from the experience. Under the tutelage of Ms. Martin and the support and sponsorship of Turco LegaL, the team will continue to grow. Their next competition is this week against Phillips Exeter.
- The Investment Club continues to fine tune its investment portfolio.Using funds provided by the NEF, students part of the club recently provided a presentation to a board of local financial advisors for feedback.Thank you NEF, for providing this realistic experience for our students.
Alongside the above activities, our athletic teams continue on with their seasons. All of our teams are having a strong season with girls' basketball holding an impressive 11-1 record along with the boys' and girls' swim teams at 7-1 and 6-2 respectively. Boys track is still unbeaten and just won the State Relays. Girls track is also doing great at 3-1 and Boys and. Girls Hockey along with Boys Basketball continue to move up in the rankings. Students part of the wrestling team have shown strong endurance in their matches and, with the recent weather, the ski-team is ready to hit the slopes.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
On January 10th, the School Council met to finalize the school improvement plan. Additionally, Ms. Lauren Gee, Director of Student Support and Mr. Aaron Ribaudo-Smith, College and Career Counselor, provided an overview of the curriculum being developed to help students develop a flexible post-secondary plan. COURSE SPOTLIGHT
Last week Gr. 10 World Studies students provided presentations to their peers on current topics. Teachers Mr. Hill, Ms. Prusinski, Ms. Stuart, and Mr. Sturma over the past month, have designed lessons that allow students to interact with course content while learning essential skills, such as networking, critical feedback, and presentation skills.
I had the opportunity to walk into a few classes and it was very impressive to see students draw connections between their topic and themes studies in the course thus far.
