Hello Clipper Families and Happy New Year

I hope your student has had a good first week back from our break.  It is hard to believe we only have 3 weeks for the 1st semester to come to a close.  Please see below for information and reminders regarding:

Midyear Week Early Release Schedule (Jan 17-Jan 20)

As with prior years, our students will participate in a midyear week during which they will wrap-up their first semester coursework.  To accommodate for assessments and/or other course activities happening during the midyear week, students will have an early release schedule all four days.  Please see this link for the midyear week schedule.  Also, note that the bus pick-up during the week will be at 12:45. 

SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATE

Here is a link to a summary from the December meeting.  A main focus centered on developing our high school’s improvement plan.  Using feedback from the team, the plan focuses on efforts around student achievement, school climate, access to advanced technical programming, post-secondary planning, and skill development that is aligned with the District’s Portrait of a Graduate.

UPDATE FROM THE COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

The Massachusetts Educational Finance Authority (MEFA) will provide the following informational and planning nights.  Even if your student is a freshman or sophomore, I encourage you to attend to start learning about what is involved with thinking about life after high school.  

  • Wed, March 1st at 6pm for a Junior College Planning Night
  • Wed, April 12th at 6pm for a Spring Financial Aid Info Night

NHS IPAD PROGRAM

If you were not able to attend our informational presentation back in December.  Please check out our website for information about the high school’s 1:1 iPAD Program.  Also, to understand how the iPAD will help us enhance teaching and learning in the classroom, view this portion of the December presentation.

Information on registering for the iPAD program will be sent to you in the coming weeks. It is our goal that as we enter next school year, that every family opts-in to the program.

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Last school year, donors provided well over $500,000 in scholarships to students in the graduating class.  It is clear that Newburyport is a very special community. 

Senior families, please be on the look-out for an email that was sent to you and your student from Alice Crupi.  This has important information around applying for scholarships.  Following the correct procedures and meeting deadlines are essential so that our Donors are able to follow their process in making student selections.   

CLASS SPOTLIGHT 

Check out these pictures from Ms. Leadbeater’s Industrial Design class.  In this lesson, students explored circuitry and used problem-solving skills to redesign gaming control.  Students in this course use the design process to create, build and test solutions to various design and engineering challenges.
