NHS Principal Communications - November 14, 2022
Hello Clipper Families,
What a fall semester our students have had, from athletics to extra-curricular activities to service and scholarships. This week five of our teams will continue their climb through the state tournament. Good luck to Boys Soccer, Girls Field Hockey, and Girls Volleyball in their final four matches this Tuesday and Wednesday. Also, be sure to follow our Boys and Girls X-Country teams, who have now both advanced to the All State Meet this coming Saturday.
Alongside the athletic ventures, our Model United Nations team returned this weekend from their international competition at McGill University in Montreal. The team had an outstanding performance and a special congratulation goes to Theo Roberts who was recognized by the Model UN Committee as an outstanding delegate. Thank you to Mr. LaChapelle and Ms. Crofts for their work coaching the students for this very involved event. Also, thank you to Ms. Taggart for helping to chaperone.
I want to commend the Newburyport High School Band for their role in the Veteran’s Day Parade. Their growth as a unit continues to shine. Also, thank you to the students part of the Action News. Last week, they showcased Veterans in our community so that our students could reflect on and recognize the service provided by our military veterans.
Our students continue to be busy providing service throughout the Newburyport region. This weekend, the International Cultural Club supported the Harborside 5K and marathon. Also, thank you to the Interact Club and National Honor Society students for volunteering at Saturday Night’s successful Newburyport Education Foundation Auction.
In speaking of the Interact Club, Ms. Moran has been recognized as a Robert C. Wood Memorial Hero. This is a tremendous accomplishment. As proclaimed at last week’s Rotarian Foundation Dinner, Ms. Moran “has fostered an environment at our school where volunteering is fun and cool.” We are very fortunate to have her as a part of our faculty and it is great to see our Interact Club thrive and serve as a model for other schools.
During the October meeting of our school council, the team reviewed and summarized data relative to our high school’s performance in the areas of achievement, student growth, graduation rate, attendance rate, students successfully completing advanced coursework, and school climate. Here is a link to a summary of October’s meeting. Over the next month, this team will provide feedback on the high school’s improvement plan.
HOSTING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS – OUR PROGRAM IS GROWING
This semester we have hosted 10 international students who have been a welcome addition to our Clipper Family. With Newburyport becoming popular in the international community, we have more students electing to experience school here.
As in the fall, we are looking for families to host additional students for the spring semester! Hosting an international student can be an enriching cultural experience for the whole family. Students coming for 2nd semester.
We are working with a company called Educatius Group who supports our international students and their host families. Through this organization, host families are:
- paid a monthly stipend to the host families and students have their own medical insurance and money to spend.
- Educatius Group offers 24/7 support for host families and students.
Please consider hosting an international student! You'll be supporting this great program and fulfilling the dreams of an international student!
For more information about being a host parent, contact Jodi Del Razo from Educatius Group at email@example.com
Have a great night and Go Clippers!
