Newburyport has many youth sports leagues (soccer, lacrosse, hockey, basketball, football, baseball, softball). These teams are run independent of the school.
Nock Interscholastic Teams are managed by Mr. Kyle Hodsdon, Newburyport Athletic Director. For details, see the NHS Athletics pages.
Fall Cross Country
The Interscholastic Cross Country Program is designed for students in grades 7-8 who are interested in cross-country running. The team practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at Maudslay State Park after school from 2:30-3:30, starting in September and finishing at the end of October. (Please note that we do not provide transportation to Maudslay.) The team normally competes in at least four meets against area middle schools, including the annual Cape Ann Invitational meet in Gloucester. Bus transportation is provided for all away contests. Uniforms are provided for each participant. There is a fee to participate.
Fall Field Hockey
The Interscholastic Field Hockey Program is designed for girls in grades 6-8. The team practices two to three times per week, usually starting the first full week of school. The team plays a schedule against schools in the Cape Ann League or Northeast Conference. The team practices at the high school baseball field and plays its home games at Fuller Field. Bus transportation is provided for all away contests. There is a fee to participate.
The Interscholastic Track Program is designed for students in grades 6-8. The team practices twice a week after school at Fuller Field. The team competes in meets against schools in the Cape Ann League. Bus transportation is provided for all away games. There is a fee to participate.

Clipper Crew is an 8th grade leadership and community service group. Students are invited to apply at the end of 7th grade. The group meets during the school day and occasionally after school. Clipper Crew members provide student leadership at a number of school events and run community service projects throughout the school year.
Students in grades 7-8 are invited to audition for our annual fall play. Each year, a small ensemble performs a short dramatic production in late fall. This is an after-school activity and there is a fee to participate.
One musical is offered each year, with the performance being held in the spring. Students from all grade levels are cast in various roles in the musical. The musical provides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their singing, dancing, and acting abilities, or to support the show as a member of the stage crew. They also foster teamwork and an enhanced sense of self-confidence. There is a fee to participate.
Open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who enjoys photography and creativity. Members of the Yearbook Club take photos of their classmates throughout the school year in order to capture the moments of middle school life. Having your own camera is great, but not necessary. Members will also consult with the yearbook advisor for special assignments as well as preview and edit the yearbook pages. This allows students to be a part of creating lasting memories! There is no fee to participate.
