High School Poets Take Center Stage

Poetry Soup

For years, Poetry Soup has been a beloved monthly event where high school student voices take center stage. Led by longtime educator and community leader Deborah Szabo, each evening begins with an open mic for students to share their original work, followed by a special guest appearance from a professional poet (thanks to the generous support of the NEF!)

These sessions often evolve into workshops, feedback circles, or performance practice, giving students a chance to grow as writers and performers. Poetry Soup has also become a vital launchpad for young poets, especially those involved in the slam team and other spoken word events.
