BIO
Marc Kerble began his tenure as Superintendent on July 1, 2010, after a unanimous vote of the Newburyport School Committee appointing him to the position. Dr. Kerble brings more than 30 years of experience in public education. He most recently served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Winchester Public Schools, where he had also worked as Acting Superintendent and Interim Director of Pupil Services. He previously held several administrative positions with the Haverhill Public Schools, including oversight and management of federal Title I funding, which earned him a State Leadership Award from the National Association of Federal Education Program Managers. Dr. Kerble began his teaching career in the Peabody Public Schools as a teacher of Special Needs in grades 4-9.
Dr. Kerble earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Bridgewater State College (1976) and a Master of Education degree in Elementary School Administration from Salem State College (1980). He earned a Doctor of Education degree in Leadership in Schooling from the University of Lowell (1989), where he also received a certificate of advanced graduate study in Curriculum and Instruction (1987). Dr. Kerble has served as a Visiting Associate Professor in the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies program at Salem State College. He has presented at numerous state and regional education conferences, and his research has been published in several scholarly journals. For his leadership in education technology, Massachusetts Computer-Using Educators (MassCUE) presented him with a Webbie Award for Administration.
Dr. Kerble’s passion for education is coupled with a lifelong involvement in athletics. A member of the Peabody High School Athletic Hall of Fame, he was also tri-captain of the Bridgewater State College football team. He has co-chaired of the Libby Brakeley Memorial 5K Road Race in North Andover, and served on the Libby Brakeley Scholarship Committee. Today, Dr. Kerble remains active playing basketball, walking, participating in fitness classes (including circuit training, body combat, and body pump), and rooting for the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins.
In 1978, Dr. Kerble married his high school sweetheart, Joan, who works as an Operating Nurse at North Shore Medical Center. Their daughter Lauren, a 2009 graduate of UMass Dartmouth, is a nurse at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Another member of the family for over 12 years, Milo is a miniature Schnauzer who Dr. Kerble claims “likes a lot of attention.”
