Curriculum and Assessment

1. Provide leadership in professional development in the use of student data to guide instruction and measure student growth through the implementation of District Determined Measures (DDMs) throughout the year.

2. Continue to develop and implement rigorous and engaging curricula that is aligned to state and federal standards measured by observations, data analysis, and aligned curriculum documents.

Families and Community

3. Improve Communication within the district and with parents and community by June 2015 via the school district website.

Professional Culture

4. Create Opportunities for intentional dialogues among school staff as well as parents and the community focused on professional culture that will result in the development of Core Ethical Values by June 2015.

Teaching All Students

5. Strengthen district capabilities for developing and implementing special education services through improved Individual Education Plan (IEP) development, (i.e., clear, concise service grids), and development of specialized centers curriculum.

6. Provide leadership and professional development in the integration of technology in the classroom PreK-8 throughout the year.

Management and Operations

7. Create a timeline and process to develop a comprehensive Strategic Plan beginning in January 2015 with full implementation to occur in SY 15-16.

Chris Skiba accepts the Rotary donation from Ray Nippes and Cindy Johnson. This gift will be recognized with the naming of the Literacy Specialist Room-B244 in the new Francis T. Bresnahan Elementary School. A naming ceremony will be held in the fall when the school opens and will recognize this gift and others as part of the NEF's donor recognition campaign, Make Your Mark, currently underway.

MassTEC conference of technology teachers at Fitchburg State University honored NHS teacher, Sarah Leadbeater, with the MassTech teacher of the year award for the state of Massachusetts, on Monday, October 21, 2013. Sarah brought two NHS students to the conference to promote and explain their Sailboat project and competition (robotic sailboat) to other teachers in the state. Congratulations, Sarah!!

At this year's Massachusetts Foreign Language Association's Fall Conference, NHS teacher, Spencer Wolf, was awarded Massachusetts German Educator of the Year.  This marks the second recognition of Spencer's efforts as a second language educator this year.  Congratulations, Spencer, for your hard work and dedication to our student!

The Newburyport Education Foundation (NEF) announced Chase and Lunt Insurance donated $15,000 to the current campaign to benefit the Newburyport Public Schools. The gift will be recognized with the naming of the new lobby at the Bresnahan Elementary School.

“Our support of the schools through the NEF is part of our ongoing community involvement, and we are very pleased to contribute to enhancing the learning environment for students,” said Jay Howlett, president, Chase and Lunt Insurance, to Cindy Johnson, of the NEF Board of Directors.

Myron Moss, Educational Consultant for PTC, Inc. presented a check for $2,500 to Susan Viccaro, Superintendent of the Newburyport Schools. PTC, Inc. or Parametric Technologies Corp., is the 15th largest producer of software in the world, and an industry leader in design software. Newburyport Schools and PTC are in their 13th year of a partnership. The money will be used toward STEM (Science, Technology & Math) education. The Newburyport Public Schools are privileged to partner with PTC and share in their cutting edge technologies. Superintendent Viccaro, on behalf of the Newburyport School district, thanks Parametric Technology Corp. for their continued support.
