Art Foundations: Art History/Art of Ancient Egypt - Greta Shepard will guide your exploration of the ancient art and architecture that developed in the land of the Nile River over 5,000 years ago. Students will become familiar with the beginnings of ancient Egypt , the Pre-Dynastic Period, up through the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms. Discover the mysterious Egyptian culture through images of pottery, sculpture, pyramids, tomb decoration, and more. This course is designed for anyone interested in art and its history, and how the events and perceptions of a civilization are expressed through the visual arts.

One, 2 hour session: Tuesday, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. March 11th. High School. Cost: $45 (includes $5 registration fee). Class limit 15.


Basic Drawing - Vicki Hendrickson will teach a class in the elements of drawing. Participants will learn a v oc abulary of lines and how to incorporate line and shape into a finished drawing. Learn new ways of seeing—focusing on shapes and relationships. Develop the building bl oc ks necessary in rendering a likeness to an object. Drawing is a learned skill, and straight lines have little to do with it! So if you have always wanted to learn how to draw but felt you couldn't, this is the class for you! Text: Dr. Betty Edward's: Drawing with the Right Side of Your Brain. Supplies for first class: white drawing pad, a drawing board , magic rub eraser, a variety of drawing pencils, vine charcoal (med. - soft), blending stump, and medium soft graphite pencil.

Five, 2 hour sessions, Thursdays, 7:15 - 9:15 p.m. with open studio beginning at 6:00 week following the first class. Begins February 28th. High School. Cost: $135 (includes registration fee). Class limit: 10.


Introduction to Digital Photography – Marc Lisle. Professional photographer, will introduce the class to a better understanding of digital photography beyond the “point and shoot” level. It is an introduction to what you can do before, during, and after you press the button on your camera that will make your pictures better. You will learn to speak the language of both digital and traditional photography. The class is designed for someone who has just bought a digital SLR camera. Previous knowledge of film photography is useful for this course, but is not a prerequisite. You will need to have access to a digital camera and a computer. After the first week, there will be weekly assignments.

Four, 2 hour sessions: Wednesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Begins January 30th. Cost $120 (includes registration fee). Class limit: 12.

The Painting Class - Renowned artist , Beverly Mitchell will teach beginners and intermediate painters about color, composition, and the use of various mediums. Try your hand at watercolor, acrylics and oils or limit your efforts to one. Beverly is proficient in each medium. Drawing will be addressed as needed. One-on-one assistance will be offered as well as demonstrations. Basics for class: small canvas or canvas board, table easel, a beginning set of watercolor, acrylic or oil brushes and basic set of paints. If you've been painting a while or if you always dreamed of painting, but have hesitated, now is your moment

Eight, 3 hour sessions: Wednesdays, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Begins January 30th. High School. Cost: $165 (includes registration fee). Class limit: 10.

Monday Night Painting Workshop – Treat yourself to a night out and practice your art. Painters, take the luxury of actually setting aside the time you have promised yourself to paint – and never do! You will also benefit from critique and the flow of ideas. This will become your favorite night of the week. Your instructor, N. J. Anderson, has the ability to guide you in working with acrylic, oil painting, and prismacolor pencils. Painters will need tabletop easels, a 16” x 20” canvas or canvas board, and just a few paint brushes until we decide what type you like. Oil painting will need Gamsol solvent (to protect our lungs) and an airtight bottle to keep it in. Pencil artists will need a small set of prismacolor pencils and a tablet of nice heavy watercolor paper or some pieces of heavy textured paper in shades of black, dark brown, or ivory.
